I am a Guinny Whore... Brilliant!

"Sometimes, when I reflect back on all the beer I drink, I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.'"
-- Jack Handy

"Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world."
-- Kaiser Wilhelm

"If beer is liquid bread, the Guinness is liquid cake."
-- Naveen Kumar

I have previously stated that I love adult beverages. Wine, champagne, mixed drinks (occassionally - more in my youth), and beer. I have to say that there are times that I feel like a wine or some champagne, especially with The Flame of Cheshire, but as of late... well actually, for a couple of years now, I have loved the ale. Sometimes there is nothing that will quench my thirst more than a beer. It is perfect in the Summer and comforting in the Winter... All year round it is my friend!

I often accompany my most supreme Lady in Waiting, The Flame of Cheshire, and her gallant Laird, Lord Chiefdom of Cromarty to our current favorite watering hole, Ye Olde Forge Restaurant. The Prince Consort is gallant enough to be our DD on the weekends that he has off. What a dream!

Ye Olde Forge is a fabulous place. There specialty is beer. They have domestic and a ridiculous amount of imports. When you walk in, you see behind the counter a sight as sweet as the Holy Grail... three banks of taps and two multishelved coolers filled with sweet ale. I sure hope heaven has a tavern JUST like this place. They have a novel beer club one can join. You get a beer card and have a year to drink 50 beers. Once one has completed it, they ring the bell at the bar and you get a pewter mug that you can take home or leave there with the zillion mugs that adorn the establishment. Smartly, they only allow you to enter four beers at a time on your card. I guess when they started the club, people were a little crazy and with the dramshops laws, one has to be careful. There are other stages one can attain with discounts on drafts, money off meals... They have the BEST wings. They aren't buffalo, but their own fantabulous concoction. Yummy! As you build up cards metal plates and hand carved plaques are earned and displayed.

I am currently on my second card. Lent was a killer, when we gave up the place, so we are a bit behind. Lord Chiefdom and I do the cards and The Flame enjoys her tooneys and the beers we don't like or finish. She is excellent that way! She has come across some she likes, like Samichlaus. It comes in a wine glass, tastes great, and besides being banded in some states, has an alcohol content of 13%. "Coma in a bottle, I know, I know it's serious...."

Below is a dark and kind of crappy video of a couple of William's students who did a Winter Study Project film about the place. It does give a bit of the flavor, but it doesn't come close to a true dramatization of a visit.

Ack! I realized that I have completely gotten off track. My point of this post was to discuss all the great zillion beers I have tried... enjoyed them greatly, but I still come back to my lover, Mr. Guinness. It has only 126 calories, no fat and provides 1 gram of protein. Breakfast in a bottle baby! I just love it. One of those beers I never get sick of and will treat me kindly. I love it so much that it will always be the last beer I drink on each card. It leads me to a happy life!

Anyhoo... I am sick of typing, so TTFN!

Stay cool and safe!
